Santon is a small attractive village just 5 miles south of Douglas, the capital of the Isle of Man, on the road to Ronaldsway Airport. There is a request stop at Santon Station for passengers on the Isle of Man Steam Railway which has been operating since 1874, and still uses the original locomotives.
There are a number of historic sites in the area of Santon dating back to the Celtic Iron Age and the occupation of the island by the Viking, but more recently scenes have been filmed in Santon for several movies and television programmes.
Mount Murray Golf & Country Club at Santon offers golfers an opportunity to play on a superb 18-hole championship course set in magnificent scenery with beautiful views across to Douglas and the south coast of the island.
The Isle of Man is full of folklore and you never know what will be around the next bend or hiding in the shadows of wells, caves and bridges. Fairy Bridge on the outskirts of Santon is a long known hide away for some of the little people of the island. It is considered bad luck to pass over the bridge without acknowledging the fairies known to be there. Some people write little messages and wishes on paper and tie them to the trees next to the bridge. Perhaps they are hoping for a little fairy magic!
